Depoe Bay is home to the smallest natural navigable harbor in the world consisting of six square acres. Because of our proximity to the ocean, this quick access makes it possible for fisherman or whale watchers to get from dockside out to fishing or viewing in a matter of minutes. Depoe Bay is known as the "Whale Watching Capital Of The Oregon Coast." Resident whales make their home here about ten months of the year. |

Charters run seven days a week, hourly if the weather permits. You can see the whales in their natural habitat or go out fishing. Depoe Bay was used in the "fishing" scene of One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, starring Jack Nicholsen. Fantastic galleries, great dining, fishing, and whale watching truly make Depoe Bay one of the favorite destinations on the Oregon Coast. Visitors can to shop or dine within the view of the ocean because of a tall sea wall runs the length of the downtown area. |
| During stormy weather or turbulent seas, waves run beneath lava beds and build pressure to spout water as high as 60 feet into the air. These are known as "Spouting Horns." A "Class Wooden Boat Show and Crab Feed" is held in April and "Fleet of Flowers" on Memorial Day is a dedication to those who have lost their lives or are buried at sea. Depoe Bay hosts an "Indian Style Salmon Bake" of 3,000 pounds of salmon which are cooked over open fires of alder and cedar just as the Indians did years ago. When visiting the Oregon Coast, Depoe Bay is truly a "Must See" place. |
